    OKLAHOMA CITY (BP) -- Misty Hall thought her husband Shane was uncomfortable. Confined to bed in their Oklahoma City home in the presumed last days of his battle with stomach cancer, he asked her to raise his hands.

    "I'm worshiping Jesus," he explained. As the two of them listened to Charles Billingsley's "I'll Run to You," the 46-year-old pastor mouthed every word Billingsley sang: "Though my heart and flesh may fail, You're my very present help, My tower of strength, My portion evermore."

    Shane wept and began verbally thanking Jesus, his wife told Baptist Press on Valentine's Day. "And we just had that sweet, sweet time with the Lord, and he just worshiped," Misty said. "That was such a precious, precious gift to me from the Lord, and just [being] with the Lord." Read More

    FORT WORTH, Texas (BP) -- Dedication of the new Mathena Hall at Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary -- with its Martyrs' Walk and Lottie Moon exhibit -- highlighted three days of trustee sessions at the Fort Worth, Texas, campus.

    Trustees and the seminary community gathered Oct. 18 for the ribbon-cutting ceremonies.

    During the trustees' Oct. 16-18 sessions, Travis Trawick was elected vice president for institutional advancement and four professors were elevated to new faculty ranks. Read More

  • 'Grace-filled' Warner selected to Hall of Fame

    HOUSTON (BP) -- After coming up short in his first two years of eligibility, Kurt Warner is finally a Pro Football Hall of Famer.

    The former NFL quarterback, often known for being outspoken about his Christian faith, was picked for the honor on Saturday by the 48-member selection committee. He was selected along with LaDainian Tomlinson, Terrell Davis, Morten Andersen, Jason Taylor, Jerry Jones and Kenny Easley. Warner won two MVP awards during his NFL career, played in three Super Bowls and was the Super Bowl MVP in 2000. Read More

  • Archivist Taffey Hall named SBHLA director

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. (BP) -- An archivist with more than a decade of experience researching Baptist history has been named the new director of the Southern Baptist Historical Library and Archives, the Council of Seminary Presidents has announced.

    Taffey Hall, previously the library's archivist, will replace Bill Sumners as SBHLA director when he retires in July. Read More

    ALEXANDRIA, La. (BP) -- By unanimous vote, trustees of the Baptist Message, newsjournal of the Louisiana Baptist Convention, elected Will Hall as editor of the state newspaper and digital media outlet.

  • Casting Crowns' singer undergoes cancer surgery

    MCDONOUGH, Ga. (BP) -- Mark Hall, lead singer of contemporary Christian band Casting Crowns, underwent surgery to remove a kidney March 11. Doctors found a solid mass in the kidney earlier this month and were 90 percent certain it was cancer, according to a post on the band's website March 5.

    Hall's wife Melanie, who often blogs at the band's website, called the pathology report a miracle, noting the encased mass had not spread inside the kidney or anywhere else. Read More
